Helping Women in War Times

07 Dec 2013

Within the framework of the “Helping Women in War Times” project, Nabaa in partnership with Solidarity and the Foundation for Future launched a report monitoring violations against women as well as the results carried out by the PRS committee and refugee women from Syria. The report was launched on 7th Dec 2013. The most important results included:

  1. 39.26 % of the women surveyed said that when they were abused they turned to their families but when it came to sexual abuse they remained silent.
  2. 25% of the women surveyed said that they suffered from verbal and sexual abuse from their husbands.
  3. 46.13% of women kept silent in cases of sexual abuse and do not report it because they feel embarrassed especially as it is linked to their reputation and honor.

Working papers were presented.  The first one was from Solidarity and focused on the economic situation of female refugees as working Palestinian women face difficulties in the labor market because of Lebanese laws and regulations.
The second working paper was by Nashit and focused on violations against women especially those in emergency situations.
The third one was by the PRS committee and focused on violations against women before and after displacement.
The participants agreed to coordinate with NGOs and other active members to limit violations against women especially during times of war. The program also included three actual case studies where women’s rights were being violated.
