Camp Children Committee

What is Camp Children Committee?  It is a committee for children who live in Burj Shemali Camp, Tyre, to address their needs and provide solutions to the problems they are facing, e.g. psychological, lack of entertainment, education etc.  A team from Developmental Action Without Borders Organization, Nabaa, connected with other children’s organizations to elect two children to represent the rest of the children in Burj Shemali Camp within this Committee.  The committee consists of 15-20 children aged between 12 and 15 years.

The aim of the committee is to ensure the rights of children to participate in decisions that affect them directly. It also looks to evaluate the way they live in the camps and to address anything that a child may need or is suffering from. The mission and aims of the committee are:

First: The children of the committee will be trained by experts from institutions and local and international organizations to give them the skills they need to address their issues and troubles.  They will also help them to improve their communication skills, educate them on their rights, instruct them on researching issues and explain how to collect data.

Second: The committee will organize activities and carry out periodic visits to the municipalities, institutions and committees of the Camp to inform them on the latest updates.

Third: They will arrange monthly committee meetings with an organization or institution at the camp.  

Fourth: The will attend events and arrange activities and awareness building sessions at schools and neighborhoods for other children in the camp.

Fifth: They will visit international organizations and to give them their recommendations.

Sixth: They will participate in planning and taking decisions for the children in the camp.

Seventh: They will network and coordinate with the child security network in the camp.

Eighth: They will elect a child as a coordinator for the committee each year to represent it at meetings relating to child security.
